Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer is also called as "The Golden City".
Jaisalmer is located in Indian state named Rajasthan. It is one of the Heritage place of Rajsthan. You can see Palace of king, Few Jain temples, Heritage style residents as well as dessert. 

The meaning of "Jaisalmer" is "the Hill Fort of Jaisal". Jaiselmer is named from its founder Maharawal Jaisal Singh, a Rajput king in 1156 AD.

How to get there

By Air:-

Jaisalmer city has a small military airport and it supports only chartered flights. If you want to take flight than Jodhpur airport is good option. Jodhpur airport is 5-6 hrs from Jaisalmer city. You can take private or prepaid taxi from the airport. 

By Train:-

Jaisalmer is well connected with train network of trains covering most of the Indian cities. Once you reach the station, there are many auto rickshaws and private taxis standing outside the station.

By road:-

Jaisalmer has wide network of local buses from main cities like Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur etc. Even you get private buses and travels from the metro cities.

Places to visit in Jaiselmer:-

Tanot Mata Temple :-

These temple is situated at the border of India Pakistan and maintained by Indian Military. And its near to battle site of longewala. Tanot mata is protector of army and they worship her a lot. Normally people are not allowed beyond tanot mata temple without permission.

You can see the boarder of India Pakistan from the dessert of Jaisalmer.

Another important thing which you should not miss is spend one night in dessert. The is different tourist agencies provide facilities to stay in dessert. They provide tents, Dinner, Folk dance performance at night and Morning breakfast. Its such amazing experience and you will definitely enjoy these moments for sure.

In folk dance performance you can experience Rajasthan cultural songs and music of Rajasthan in which the performers are using totally different instruments. You can enjoy Camp fire as well as "Hookah".

Jaisalmer Fort:-

Jaisalmer Fort is one of the largest fort in the world. These fort was built by Rajput king Rao Jaisal in 1156 AD. There is museum inside the fort where you can see rifles, Guns and other weapons which was used in war at that time.

  18. I've been to Jaisalmer and it's one of the most special places I've visited. I recommend taking a camel back trip through the dessert for a couple of days. Great experience. - Jason Young.
